Director Statement: Science and Philippine culture are at the center of this documentary film, the Yankaw, but so is generational legacy. The story of Yankaw made way for every generation to travel into the origins of this indigenous knowledge. The team also ensures capturing wider horizons as the story uncover the beautiful depths of the remarkable innovations of the Filipino people out of resourcefulness and creativity. This film may give you an ending but the mission enclosed with it will never end; magpapatuloy para sa siyensya at kultura!

Director's Bio: Khristine Sandoval is a filmmaker and photographer based in Laguna, CALABARZON, Philippines. Khristine works as a full-time science faculty member of NU Laguna and as a passionate photographer of her own Tenshots Photography business. She is currently taking Master of Science in Biology in University of Santo Tomas where she exhibits exemplary practice of her skills in the field of science. Along with her science expertise, she also presents keen ability in arts. In 2014, she had a formal photography training under Federation of Philippine Photographers Foundation (FPPF) where she ranked 8 in the class (out of 33 students) of Human Activities Category. Recently this year, she was included in the Top 20 finalists in the 1st San Pedro Photography Festival 2022 "Lente at Turismo: Sining ng Pagasa" in National Arts Month 2022. Meanwhile, during February 2019, she was a cinematographer in Garden Festival 2019 and her team in Same Day Edit (SDE) competition won 3rd place in the "Kwentong Dila" on the spot 10-hour filmmaking challenge. Then, "Yankaw" was born, and she is the director for this documentary film. Again, it won 3rd place and received a viewer's choice award in DOST-SEI 5th Indie-Siyensya Filmmaking Competition 2021. With these accomplishments, Khristine has been in her best potential in teaching science and arts while leaving a legacy to the next generation of scientists and artists.
