THE ADVENTURES OF PRINCE ACHMED's exquisitely crafted visuals are more than matched by its utterly enchanting story.
THE ADVENTURES OF PRINCE ACHMED is a 1926 German animated fairy tale. It is the oldest surviving animated feature film and uses a silhouette animation technique that the director, Lotte Reiniger, invented. It involves manipulated cutouts made from cardboard and thin sheets of lead under a camera. There are similarities with Wayang shadow puppets, although Reiniger animated her figures frame by frame. It took five years to complete this film.
