The film revolves around a group of Borneo Ranger soldiers engaged in a battle in Matunggong, Sabah, during the 1940s. As they attempt to escape the conflict, they bring a prisoner named Lakisan into the forest. There, they confront local enemies and face an ethical dilemma when Lakisan reveals the danger of the area. As they try to escape the forest, they encounter supernatural entities, a mysterious woman dressed in black and Mondou. There are unexpected and frightening experiences that unveil secrets and supernatural forces, altering the fate of the group.
Director’s Statement: This film aims to showcase the legendary myth of MONDOU to a worldwide audience. It embodies the cultural richness and traditions found in Sabah. MONDOU is the ‘punisher’ of those who harm the forest or violate jungle taboos – so carries the responsibility of maintaining ecological balance.
