Along a river that undergoes a major change, Baby, a middle-aged trans woman, shuffles between her job as a companion-for-hire for strangers and her duty to her father. As the people around Baby start to disappear, she realises that she has been left behind in a sprawling city.
Director’s Statement: This is my response to the capitalistic world where relationships are tendered as transactions – brief and commodified. Set in the Pasig River, a massive expressway is being built, disrupting lives, and I want to show what life is like in a river that is believed to be dead. Is movement an indication of life or just a manifestation of existence?
JT Trinidad is a filmmaker born and raised in Pandacan, Manila. Their shorts have been shown in a number of film festivals around the world. “the river that never ends” won Gender Sensitivity Award at the OCinema International Film Festival 2022 and was included in CNN’s Best Filipino Films of 2022. They are an alumnus of Ricky Lee’s Screenwriting Workshop, Mowelfund Film Institute and Film Futura.
